The process of interpretation

How an interpretation assignment works

  1. Initial consultation

We learn your needs, the context, pricing and any specific requirements.

  2. Selection of the interpreter

We analyse the details and select an interpreter with the right subject expertise and language skills.

  3. Project briefing

The interpreter is briefed on the assignment and any terminology or context they will meet.

  4. Interpretation

On the day, the interpreter keeps communication flowing smoothly and makes sure every party understands.

  5. Quality assurance

Our team reviews the assignment afterwards and assesses how it went.

  6. Feedback

We invite your feedback and apply it, so our service keeps improving.

Planning an interpreted meeting or event

How many interpreters, and what equipment

The two questions that decide the cost and the quality of an assignment. The answers depend on the mode, the length and the number of languages.

Typical interpreter and equipment requirements by mode
ModeInterpreters per languageEquipmentEffect on the schedule
Consecutive One for most meetings; two for a full day None Roughly doubles the speaking time
Simultaneous Two, taking turns every 20 to 30 minutes Booth, interpreter console, receivers and headsets No extra time
Whispered One for short sessions; two for longer ones None, or a portable tour-guide system for a small group No extra time
Phone and video One A phone line or video platform with a good connection Depends on the mode used

Why simultaneous interpreters work in pairs

Listening and speaking at the same time is one of the most demanding tasks in any profession. Accuracy falls measurably after about half an hour, so simultaneous interpreters work in pairs and hand over at regular intervals. The interpreter who is not speaking still follows the session, notes figures and names, and supports their partner. A single interpreter booked for a full-day conference is a false economy: the afternoon sessions pay for it.

Briefing material makes the difference

Interpreters prepare terminology before they arrive, and what they can prepare depends on what you send. Agendas, speaker names and titles, presentation slides, speeches, previous minutes and a glossary of your internal terms and acronyms all help. Send them a few days ahead where you can; for legal and medical assignments, send case summaries or reports as well.

On site, remote or by phone

Choosing where the interpreter works from

On-site interpretation is still the right choice for court hearings, sensitive negotiations, medical appointments and anything where the interpreter needs to read the room. Being present lets an interpreter pick up tone, gesture and the moment when someone has not understood, and it removes any dependence on a connection.

Remote interpretation suits online meetings, multinational teams and events with participants in several countries. Video platforms such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams can carry separate language channels, so each participant chooses the language they want to hear, much as they would with a receiver at a conference. It removes travel costs and makes it easier to find an interpreter for a rarer language pair.

Phone interpretation is the fastest option of all. It connects you with an interpreter in minutes for a short conversation, an unplanned call or an urgent situation, with nothing to set up beyond the call itself.

Before a remote session

  • Confirm the platform and whether language channels are enabled
  • Run a short technical check with the interpreter the day before
  • Ask speakers to use a headset rather than a laptop microphone
  • Share slides and documents with the interpreter in advance
  • Agree how participants switch language before the meeting starts

Poor speaker audio is the most common reason a remote session goes wrong. A headset costs far less than a repeated meeting.

FAQ

Interpretation questions, answered

How do you differentiate between interpretation and translation?

Interpretation conveys spoken content from one language to another in real time, while translation converts written text. Interpreters make communication possible between people who speak different languages during conversations, meetings and events. Read more about the difference between translation and interpretation.

How many types of interpretation services do you provide?

We provide consecutive, simultaneous and whispered interpretation, on-demand phone and scheduled telephone interpretation, escort and travel interpretation, and specialist business, legal and medical interpretation, all tailored to your needs.

Do you offer both in-person and remote interpretation?

Yes. Our interpreters work on site in Dubai, Sharjah and across the UAE, and remotely by phone or video. We tailor the arrangement to your meeting or event.

Which platforms do you support for remote interpretation?

We adapt to the platform you prefer. In general we support Zoom, Microsoft Teams and other video conferencing tools, as well as phone calls.

How much do your interpretation services cost?

Prices depend on the language pair, the type of interpretation, the interpreter required, the duration and the location. Contact us or fill out the quotation form for a personalised quote.

Are your interpreters trained in specific industries?

Yes. Our interpreters are trained and qualified in fields such as medical, legal, technical and business interpreting, and we assign every project to an interpreter with the right expertise.

How many interpreters do I need for a conference?

For simultaneous interpretation, plan on two interpreters for each language. The work is so demanding that interpreters take turns every 20 to 30 minutes to keep accuracy high. A short consecutive meeting usually needs one. Tell us the length of the event and the number of languages and we will confirm.

What should I send the interpreter before the assignment?

Anything that helps them prepare terminology: the agenda, speaker names and titles, presentation slides, speeches, previous minutes and a glossary of your internal terms and acronyms. For legal and medical work, case summaries or reports are especially useful. All of it is treated as confidential.

How early should I book an interpreter?

For specialised legal or medical assignments, and for conferences, book as early as possible, ideally a few weeks in advance. We understand that urgent situations happen, and we accommodate last-minute requests whenever we can.

How do I book an interpreter for my event or conference?

Contact us through the website, by phone or by email. Our team will guide you to the most suitable interpreter and the right mode of interpreting for your event.

Do you provide interpretation equipment for large events?

Yes. For conferences and large events that use simultaneous interpretation, we can provide equipment such as headsets and microphones.

Do you ensure confidentiality in your interpretation services?

Yes. We apply strict confidentiality protocols and sign non-disclosure agreements on request, so your information remains confidential.
