Frequently asked questions

Certification and legal translation

What is a certified translation?

A complete and accurate translation issued with a signed statement confirming its accuracy. AGATO provides Ministry of Justice certified translation for UAE courts, ministries and government departments, company certified translation on our letterhead for universities, employers, banks and embassies, and NAATI and NZSTI certified translation for Australia and New Zealand. See certified translation.

Do I need an MOJ certified translation or a company certified one?

It depends on who will receive it. UAE courts, ministries and government departments require a translation certified by a translator licensed by the Ministry of Justice. Universities, employers, banks and most embassies accept a company certified translation. Tell us where the document is going and we will issue the right one.

Are your legal translations accepted by Dubai Courts?

Yes. Our Ministry of Justice certified translations are accepted by courts, embassies and government institutions in Dubai and across the UAE. See legal translation.

Can you help with notarisation, attestation or an apostille?

Yes. Depending on where a document is going, it may need notarisation, attestation or an apostille as well as translation. We tell you which applies and help you arrange it. Read which documents are and are not apostilled.

Do you provide NAATI certified translation for Australia?

Yes. AGATO provides NAATI certified translation for Australian visa, study and registration applications, prepared in Dubai. See NAATI certified translation.

Turnaround, pricing and payment

How long does a translation take?

Certificates and other short documents in common language pairs are typically ready in about four hours when we receive them during office hours, Monday to Saturday, 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. Most other documents are returned within 24 to 48 hours. Large projects can be split between translators, and we confirm the timeline before we start.

How much does translation cost?

It depends on the length of the document, the language pair, the subject and any certification, notarisation or hard copy you need. Upload your document through the quote form and you receive a fixed price rather than an estimate.

What are the ways of payment?

We accept Visa and Mastercard, PayPal, cash, cheque, money order, and payment in person at our office.

Can you handle urgent translations?

Yes, where a translator is available. Tell us your deadline when you first get in touch, and we will tell you honestly what can be delivered by then.

Documents and languages

Do you need the original document?

A clear scan or photograph is enough for the translation itself. If the receiving authority requires a stamped hard copy, we produce one for collection at our office or for courier.

Which languages do you translate?

More than 120, with Arabic and English in both directions the most requested. See all the languages we translate.

Will names in my translation match my passport?

They will if you send us the passport spelling. A name can be written more than one way between Arabic and English, and a translation that disagrees with the passport is the most common reason a document is sent back.

Is my document kept confidential?

Yes. Access to your files is restricted and they are used only for your translation. Non-disclosure agreements are available on request, and signed as a matter of course for corporate and legal work.

Interpretation

What is the difference between translation and interpretation?

Translation converts written text; interpretation converts spoken language in real time, at a meeting, a hearing, a conference or on a call. Read more about translation versus interpretation.

Which type of interpretation do I need?

Consecutive suits small meetings and depositions, simultaneous suits conferences with several languages, whispered suits one or two listeners inside a larger meeting, and phone interpretation suits urgent or short conversations. See interpretation services.

How far in advance should I book an interpreter?

As early as you can, especially for conferences and legal or medical assignments. On-demand phone interpretation is available at short notice for urgent situations.

Website translation and localization

How are website translation and website localization different from each other?

Translation converts text from one language to another. Localization adapts the website’s content to the cultural nuances and preferences of the target audience. See website translation.

Do you offer professional proofreading and editing services once the content gets translated?

Yes, we offer professional proofreading and editing to make sure the translated content is accurate, precise and error-free, so there are no misunderstandings.

How long does it take to translate and localize a website?

The timeline depends on the size and complexity of your website. We give you the details of the project timeline during the initial consultation.

What is the cost of website translation and localization services?

Prices vary with the languages involved, the size of the website and the level of service required. We provide a customised plan after evaluating your project.

How do you handle cultural differences and make sure the content is relevant to the target culture?

We have industry-specific linguists and cultural experts who research the preferences and sensitivities of the target culture and adapt the content accordingly.

Can you handle complex multimedia elements like videos and images during localization?

Yes. We localize multimedia elements so that the translated content, in whatever form, matches the language and culture of the target audience.

What is the difference between a professional translation and localization service and automated tools and plugins?

A professional service provides accuracy, cultural sensitivity and a better user experience, which automated tools and plugins may not. Our professional linguists make sure your target audience stays engaged.

Is website translation a one-time service, or should owners plan for ongoing updates?

Relevance and accuracy are the key to wider global reach, so maintaining and updating your translated content regularly is as important as the initial translation and localization.

Do you keep the same look and design of a website after translation?

Yes. Our website translators keep the design and layout as close to the original as possible while integrating the translated content smoothly.

Are you experienced in translating websites for specific industries?

Yes. We have decades of experience translating websites for industries including corporate, technology and e-commerce, using industry-specific terminology and tone.

How do you maintain confidentiality and data security during website translation?

We always prioritise the privacy and confidentiality of our clients’ data, using secure systems and strict confidentiality protocols to protect your content.

What role does a project manager play in website translation and localization?

A project manager oversees the whole process, making sure timelines are met, quality is maintained and communication flows smoothly between the translators and the client.

How do you extract content from a website and replace it with the translation?

We provide end-to-end services. Our technical team extracts the content, the linguists translate it, and the team then replaces the original content with the translation, so you do not have to handle any of it.

Do you offer multilingual customer support for international website users?

Yes, we offer multilingual customer support so international users can communicate with us in their preferred language.

How many years of experience do you have in website translation?

We have been in the industry for more than two decades, and are known for professional translation services in Dubai and the UAE.

How can I request a quote for website translation and localization?

Contact us through the website or by email. We gather the initial information we need and then propose a tailored website translation and localization service.
