Professional Urdu translation in Dubai and the UAE

The documents a Pakistani family brings to the UAE

The Pakistani community is one of the largest in the Emirates, and Urdu is the language most of its paperwork is written in. The documents we see most are the ones every family needs sooner or later: the Nikah Nama, NADRA birth and family registration certificates, divorce and custody papers, and affidavits.

A UAE authority will not act on any of them in Urdu. Residency, school places, sponsorship, inheritance and court matters all need a certified Arabic translation, which is why marriage certificates, birth certificates and legal documents make up most of our Urdu work.

Business work follows the trade between Pakistan and the Gulf: contracts, powers of attorney, trade licences and company records. See document translation for the corporate side, and driving licence translation if you are converting a Pakistani licence.

Language pairs we cover

About the language

A right-to-left script, and the spelling of your name

Urdu is the national language of Pakistan and one of the scheduled languages of India. It is written right to left in the Perso-Arabic script, usually in the flowing Nastaliq style, and a large share of its vocabulary comes from Persian and Arabic.

Spoken Urdu is close to Hindi, but the two are written in different scripts, so a document in one cannot simply be read as the other. Many Pakistani documents are also bilingual, with English and Urdu on the same page, and the handwritten Urdu entries are often the part an authority needs translated.

As with any script, the real risk is names. An Urdu name can be written in the Latin alphabet in several defensible ways, and a translation that spells it differently from the passport will be queried. We ask for the passport spelling with every document and follow it exactly, across a whole family’s file.

FAQ

Urdu translation questions, answered

Do you provide certified Urdu translation in Dubai?

Yes. Where the document is going to a UAE court, ministry or government department, we provide a Ministry of Justice certified translation, stamped and signed by a licensed translator. For universities, employers, banks and embassies, a certified translation on our company letterhead is normally what is required. Tell us the destination and we will issue the right one.

Can you translate a Nikah Nama?

Yes. The Nikah Nama is one of the Urdu documents we translate most often, including the handwritten entries. We translate every field, including the conditions and the details of the witnesses, so that the translation can be used for residency, sponsorship or court purposes in the UAE.

Do you translate Hindi as well as Urdu?

Yes. Urdu and Hindi are closely related in speech but written in different scripts — Perso-Arabic and Devanagari — so we assign a translator who reads the script your document is actually written in. See Hindi translation.

How long does an Urdu translation take?

Short documents such as a certificate are typically ready in about four hours when we receive them during office hours, Monday to Saturday, 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. Longer documents and rarer subject areas are usually returned within 24 to 48 hours. We confirm the timeline with your quote.

How much does Urdu translation cost?

Price depends on the length of the document, the language pair, the subject and whether you need certification, notarisation or a hard copy. Send us a scan and you will get a fixed price rather than an estimate that moves later.

Are your Urdu translators native speakers?

Yes. Urdu work is done by native speakers of the target language who also have a background in the subject — legal, medical, technical or commercial — because terminology is where a fluent but non-specialist translation comes apart.

Do you need the original document?

A clear scan or photograph is enough for the translation itself. If the authority receiving it requires a stamped hard copy, we produce one for collection at our office on Sheikh Zayed Road or for courier.

Will names be spelled the way they are in my passport?

They will if you send us the passport spelling. Transliterating a name out of Urdu or Arabic has more than one valid answer, and a translation that disagrees with the passport is the most common reason a document is sent back. Send both together and we match them exactly.

Can you provide an Urdu interpreter as well?

Yes. We provide Urdu interpreters for meetings, hearings, medical appointments and conferences, on site across the UAE or remotely. See interpretation services for the modes available.

Is my document kept confidential?

Yes. Access is restricted, handling is secure, and your document is used only for your translation. An NDA is available on request, and it is signed as a matter of course for corporate and legal work.
