Professional marriage certificate translation in Dubai

Required in Arabic before you submit

Marriage certificate translation became essential in Dubai after the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs updated its rules to require birth and marriage certificates to be translated into Arabic before official submission. AGATO is a certified translation company in Dubai providing document translation for marriage certificates, birth and death certificates, driving licences and more, carried out by Ministry of Justice certified translators.

Why accuracy matters on this document

A marriage certificate is a legal contract. It names your spouse, confirms that the marriage legally took place, and records the details of the bride, the groom and the wedding day. Every one of those details is something an official will check against another document, which is why the translation has to be exact rather than approximately right.

We provide marriage certificate translation from English to Arabic and Arabic to English at exceptional rates, with more than 120 other language pairs available. Read about the types of certification if you are unsure which your destination requires.

When you need it

The uses of a translated marriage certificate

Personal, professional and legal — these are the reasons people in Dubai ask for one.

For legal purposes

  • Gaining parental rights in child custody cases
  • Establishing legal marital status in divorce proceedings
  • Providing evidence of marital status in inheritance and estate matters
  • Any court filing where the marriage has to be proved

For personal and professional reasons

  • Legally updating a name on a passport, driving licence and other documents
  • Schools and tutoring institutions verifying parents’ marital status
  • Updating employment records and claiming spousal benefits
  • Health insurance, retirement allowances and pension plans
  • Family visa applications and a partner’s residency permit

Our process

How your certificate is handled

Accurate, confidential and compliant with the legal requirements of the authority receiving it.

  1. Initial discussion

We confirm the target language, the purpose and any legal considerations involved.

  2. Document evaluation

The certificate is examined in full, including the text, the seal and the signatures.

  3. Translation

An MOJ certified translator renders every detail: names, dates, places and terminology.

  4. Quality assurance

A second linguist checks accuracy and consistency, and corrections are made immediately.

  5. Final delivery

Delivered digitally or as a stamped hard copy, whichever you need.

Names and spelling

Two passports, one spelling each

A marriage certificate names two people, which means two passports to match rather than one. Transliterating a name between Arabic and English has more than one valid answer, and an official comparing your translated certificate against a visa application will question any difference.

Send us both passport spellings with the certificate and we follow them exactly. The same applies to place names, to the order of given and family names, and to any name that changed as a result of the marriage — which is frequently the reason the translation was needed in the first place.

Send with your certificate

  • Both passport spellings, exactly as printed
  • Where the translation is going and who will receive it
  • Whether you need notarisation or an apostille
  • Whether a stamped hard copy is required
  • Any other family documents needing translation at the same time
  • Your deadline, if the application has one

Everything you send is confidential and used only for your translation.

FAQ

Marriage certificate translation questions, answered

Do I have to translate my marriage certificate into Arabic in Dubai?

For official submission, yes. The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs requires birth and marriage certificates to be translated into Arabic before they are submitted officially, and the translation has to be certified rather than informal.

What is a translated marriage certificate used for?

Family and spouse visa applications, residency permits for a partner, official name changes on a passport and other documents, employment records and spousal benefits, school admissions that ask for parents’ marital status, and legal matters such as custody, divorce and inheritance.

How long does it take?

A single marriage certificate in a common language pair is typically ready in about four hours when we receive it during office hours. Other language pairs are usually returned within 24 to 48 hours. We confirm the timing before we start.

Who certifies the translation?

A translator licensed by the UAE Ministry of Justice, which is what makes the translation acceptable to courts, ministries and government departments in the UAE. For documents going abroad we also provide NAATI certification for Australia and NZSTI for New Zealand.

Do you need the original certificate?

A clear scan or photograph is enough for the translation. Send it through the quote form, by email or on WhatsApp. If the receiving authority requires a stamped hard copy, we produce one for collection or courier.

Will the names match our passports?

They will if you send us the passport spellings. Names transliterated between Arabic and English have more than one valid form, and an authority comparing the translation against a passport will question a mismatch. Sending both together avoids the most common reason a document is returned.

Does it need an apostille or notarisation too?

Inside the UAE, a Ministry of Justice certified translation is usually sufficient. For use in another country, notarisation or an apostille is often required after translation. Tell us the destination and we will confirm which applies and help arrange it.

Which languages do you cover?

English to Arabic and Arabic to English at exceptional rates, with more than 120 other language pairs available. Certificates issued in almost any country can be handled.

Can you translate our birth certificates at the same time?

Yes, and it is usually faster and cheaper to send a family’s documents together, because the names stay consistent across the whole file. We handle birth, divorce and death certificates as well.

Is the document kept confidential?

Yes. A marriage certificate carries personal information about two people and often their families. Access is restricted, handling is secure, and the document is used only for your translation. An NDA is available on request.

Need your marriage certificate translated?

Upload a scan with both passport spellings and tell us where it is going. We will confirm the price and the delivery time.
